Getting a Job in Business Marketing

College is over and now the freshly graduated students are on the prowl for a fulfilling and successful career. But these ambitious college grads are sometimes hampered in their attempts to find gainful employment by their own resumes.

Many people do not realize that the job search can start while you are still in school. Although you may not have your business marketing degree quite yet, your ability to start networking and getting to know people within your potential profession can be of great value.

The first way that a person can increase the likelihood of leaving an interview room or meeting with a good first impression imprinted upon those they met with is by simply looking presentable. Dressing well, not necessarily meaning dressing expensive, however, and being neat in appearance is typically the first thing that others will notice and judge.

If you find a professor that is working on something that you are also passionate about, you may want to apply to be a research assistant. Working closely with your professors can help you gain experience that will be applicable and valuable once you start applying for jobs.

To survive the initial cut and avoid having one’s resume shoved to the rejected pile, a resume must be to the point and concise, typically fitting on to one page only.

Beyond the medical benefits of being physically fit, a person can boost their first impressions on others simply by appearing healthy and in good shape. But a first impression does delve deeper than simple superficial factors of a well kempt appearance.

The real sticking power of a first impression will come once a person opens their mouths. Through intelligent conversation, a person can solidify their first impression on others with the social skills they possess and the ability to comprehend and subsequently add to a conversation or interview.

When you are looking for internships, don’t be afraid to talk to your professors. You may find that your professors have connections with different companies and these connections can help you get a quality internship.

For example, while being a member of a college engineer club is a worthy extracurricular activity, its relevance for a position in business administration may be questioned. In the same token, however, if the application is for a job in engineering, then membership in the college’s engineer club is worth noting.

By adding additional insight, clarity, or by providing a different perspective on a topic, a person can leave a good first impression on others by allowing them to see the intelligence that the individual possesses.

Construction and business administration may have little to do with each other on the outside, but the duties of the construction worker can easily be listed to promote qualifications of an individual on a business administration resume

A business marketing degree can help you on your way to a great career. Start getting ready for your career during school and you may find it much easier to get your foot in the door after graduation.
